Storage in Knoxville, TN
Knoxville is a beautiful, rapidly growing city at the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s a progressive, friendly city with a lot of diversity and different cultures to experience. It’s one of the largest cities in the Appalachian region and has become a great place to learn more about and experience Appalachian culture.
A Flourishing Arts Community
Knoxville is a community of the arts. It offers a culture of festivals, art, and music for all to experience and take part in. Enjoy one of the many festivals throughout the year or check out Market Square in the downtown area. Check out Bacon Fest, First Friday ArtWalk, International Food Festival, Pride Fest, Volapalooza, Vestival, and so much more throughout the year.
There are a lot of unique shops to discover downtown as well, like Union Ave Books and the old-time Mast General Store. Parking downtown is free after 6 p.m. and on the weekends, so you can more freely explore all that this amazing city has to offer.
Old-time, bluegrass, and country music also have roots in Knoxville. Some popular bands from the genres include Flatt & Scruggs, Homer & Jethro, and the Everly Brothers.
If you’re more outdoorsy, there are plenty of national parks and nature centers to visit. Go for a hike or plan a camping trip at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, or check out Ijams Nature Center along the Tennessee river.
A Sports Lover’s Dream
Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers or “Vols.” Enjoy a college football or basketball game and cheer them on. You can also watch a minor league baseball game as Knoxville is home to the Tennessee Smokies or check out a professional hockey game and cheer for the Knoxville Ice Bears.
If you’re into sports that are a little less mainstream, Knoxville also has a female roller derby team. Check out the Hard Knox Roller Girls and cheer them on in this fast-paced contact sport.
A Little History
Knoxville was the original capital of Tennessee and was first settled in 1786. Being more geographically isolated, though, it had a difficult time thriving until the arrival of the railroad in 1855. After the Civil War, the city became a busy wholesaling and manufacturing center.
Now, Knoxville is a quickly developing downtown area, with a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, Knoxville Convention Center, the redevelopment of Market Square, several new restaurants and bars, and new and redeveloped housing.
